Rangers
What is a Ranger?
The GLS Ranger Team, exclusive to Gages Lake School, is a specialized group made up of certified staff and paraprofessionals. Their primary role is to provide therapeutic support to students across the entire school environment, offering assistance academically and behaviorally as needed.
At the heart of their services is the Alternative Learning Room (ALE Room), where students can receive individualized 1:1 support. Additionally, the Ranger team actively engages with students within classrooms, providing check-ins and offering breaks to those requiring extra support.
In addition to these services, the "Ranger Station" provides another vital resource for students. Available throughout the day, the Ranger Station offers a calm space for students to meet with a Ranger when they require a break or become dysregulated. Equipped with flexible seating and designed to accommodate students' comfort, the Ranger Station serves as a therapeutic space for those in need of support.
What distinguishes the Ranger team is their proactive approach to behavior management. Through the implementation of interventions and the cultivation of strong relationships with students, they aim to foster an environment conducive to success. Their training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI), Ukeru, and restorative/trauma-informed practices equips them with the necessary skills to handle diverse situations effectively.
Overall, the GLS Ranger team plays a crucial role in promoting a positive and nurturing school environment, where students feel supported and empowered to succeed.
