Andrea Rouse

Principal
Gages Lake School

I am excited to begin my first year as the principal of Gages Lake School. As I embark on my 24th year in education, I reflect on a career dedicated to enriching the lives of students through both general and special education.

My journey in education began in the classroom, where I taught students in diverse learning environments. Over the years, I have embraced various roles, including teacher, behavior specialist, and special education administrator. Each position has deepened my understanding of the unique needs of learners and fueled my passion for creating educational spaces where all can succeed.

I hold an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, as well as master's degrees in special education and educational leadership. These academic experiences, combined with my practical knowledge, have equipped me to lead with confidence and compassion.

I firmly believe in building relationships based on communication and collaboration. This philosophy will guide my approach to leadership at Gages Lake School, where I strive to foster an environment that supports every student’s growth and development.

Throughout my career, I have been honored to inspire and guide students and educators alike, and I remain committed to making a positive impact in my community.

Kelly Weakley

Assistant Principal
Gages Lake School

With nearly twenty years in education, I am honored to be starting my 6th year as Assistant Principal at Gages Lake School. My journey in education has been fueled by a deep passion for helping students with disabilities, and I have had the privilege of working in various roles that have shaped my understanding and approach to special education.

I spent the majority of my educational career as a Self-Contained ED Teacher, working with students who have significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs. It was during this time that I learned the importance of fostering strong relationships, understanding trauma, and practicing patience and empathy. I have also worked as a Special Education Cross-Categorical Teacher, serving students with a variety of disabilities, including Down syndrome and autism. Additionally, I co-taught as an Inclusion Special Education Teacher in a general education classroom and served as a Special Education Resource Teacher, providing intensive interventions to students with significant learning disabilities. These diverse experiences have profoundly shaped my approach to leadership and education.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education, a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. These qualifications have provided me with a strong foundation in both teaching and leadership, enabling me to effectively support students and educators alike.
Throughout my career, I have always prioritized maintaining open communication and supporting my students and their families. I believe that strong, transparent relationships between educators and families are crucial for all students. As I continue my role as Assistant Principal at Gages Lake School, I remain dedicated to advocating for and supporting students with disabilities. My diverse experiences have equipped me with the skills and insights necessary to foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
